You will be creating a PowerPoint presentation on an explorer. These explorers come from all over. Each presentation will have to have visuals as well as text. These visuals could come in the form of flags, maps, pictures, or clip art. You should be creative when telling the story of your explorer.

Your presentation must contain the following information about your explorer:

  1. BulletName

  2. BulletBirth and Death Years (If you can find them.)

  3. BulletCountry they were from

  4. BulletA picture of the explorer

  5. BulletCountry they explored for (who                       sponsored their trip?)

  6. BulletWhy did they go (what was their purpose for the trip?)

  7. BulletWhat they “found” (Where did they go?)

  8. BulletA Timeline of his trip(s)

  9. BulletWhat type of people or items did he encounter/find that were new?

  10. BulletWhat difficulties did he encounter?     (For some this may include not making it back and dying)

  11. Bullet  1.A world map, in which you are able to identify both the country they sailed for as well as the place or places they went.

You slides should be laid out as stated below:

  1. 1. A title slide with the name your explorer. Your names, my name (Mr. Kosiek), the date, the period you have World History and the name of the class should be at the bottom of the slide. You should also include the picture of your explorer if one is available.

  1. 2. A slide or slides with containing background information where were they from, birth/death years, who they sailed for, and any other basic info like kids/family/names of ships.

  1. 3. A timeline of the explorers life [birth/death years, dates for their voyages, and any other important dates (like when they found a certain place)]. There should ONLY be dates and an explanation of what those dates are on this slide.

  1. 4. A slide about the reasons for his trip. Be sure to include the country that sponsored his trip.

  1. 5.  A slide or slides containing information about the places to which he sailed (what did he find, was there anything of interest there). Maps of his journey would work well on these slides. This slide can also tell what they found in terms of people/items (if they were the first people to meet the people of Hawaii, put it down).

  1. 6. A slide that gives a timeline of his journey(s). This is different from a timeline of his life. There should ONLY be dates about the journey on here, and must give the beginning and end dates, as well as any dates you can find about his discoveries.

7.  A slide describing any difficulties your explorer or his crew encountered on the journey.

For the design of the presentation, please note the following: Your slides should not be all white background. Your color choices must make it easy to view (if you put pink writing on a red background that will not get you full credit). You should use slide transitions/animations/sounds but do not let them be the focus of the presentation, they should be there to enhance the information being presented not take away from it. Please check your spelling. Take a look at the rubric at the end of this page to see how this part will be scored.

You will be working with ONE and only ONE other person. If I see you sharing information with another group, both groups will receive a ZERO (0) for the project.

When all is said and done, you MUST have a total of SEVEN slides.
